英語を身につけたい人の為の・・・

英語を見につけるためにまずは肩慣らしで下の英文を読んで日本語訳にしてみましょう。

Neither did I know much of the hands forward. All these people had been together for eighteen months or so, and my position was that of the only stranger on board. I mention this because it has some bearing on what is to follow. But what I felt most was my being a stranger to the ship; and if all the truth must be told, I was somewhat of a stranger to myself. The youngest man on board (barring the second mate), and untried as yet by a position of the fullest responsibility, I was willing to take the adequacy of the others for granted.

また、私は、手の多くを前に知りませんでした。
これらのすべての人々は18か月程度の間一緒にいりました。また、私の位置は搭乗中のただ一人の見知らぬ人のそれでした。
それが次のとおりであるものとある関係があるので、私はこれに言及します。
しかし、私が最も感じたことは、私が船を知らない人であるということでした;
